A soft place to land.
____
Attachment-based therapy for anxiety, relationships, and emotional well-being.
MY APPROACH
Therapy grounded in connection.
I integrate attachment science, emotion-focused work, and evidence-based therapies to support meaningful, lasting change.
“Connection is the energy that exists between people when they feel seen, heard, and valued”
Attachment Based
The relationships we've experienced shape how we see ourselves and connect with others. Together, we'll explore these patterns with curiosity and compassion, creating new ways of relating that feel more secure and authentic.
Emotion Focused
Emotions are more than feelings to manage, they're valuable sources of information. Therapy provides a space to understand, process, and work with your emotions so they become guides rather than obstacles.
Evidence Based
My approach integrates research-supported therapies with care that's tailored to you. Every intervention is grounded in evidence while recognizing that meaningful therapy is never one-size-fits-all.
About Me
—
I'm a Registered Psychologist licensed to practice in both British Columbia and Alberta, and I'm so glad you're here.
At the heart of my work is a simple belief: we heal best in relationships.
I see therapy as a collaborative process where we become curious together. We'll explore the patterns that have helped you survive, understand where they came from, and gently build new ways of responding that feel more aligned with the life you want to live.
My approach is grounded in warmth, authenticity, and collaboration. Therapy can involve difficult conversations, but I also believe there's room for laughter along the way. Humour has a way of helping us feel more human, easing tension, and reminding us that growth doesn't always have to feel heavy. I strive to create a space where you can bring your whole self; messy moments, victories, questions, and everything in between.
Outside of the therapy room _____
You'll usually find me spending time with my Ragdoll cat, Finn, painting, or sitting down at the piano or guitar. Creativity has always been an important part of my life, and I find it offers many of the same things therapy can: curiosity, self-expression, and moments of reflection.
Why Sisu?
___
My connection to Sisu is both personal and professional. My family background is Finnish on my father’s side, and my last name, Maja, comes from my Finnish heritage. When choosing a name for my practice, I wanted something that honoured that connection while also reflecting what I believe therapy can offer.
While there isn't a direct English translation, Sisu is often described as a quiet, enduring courage, the inner strength to keep moving forward even when life feels difficult or uncertain.
To me, this captures something essential about therapy. We all develop ways of coping with anxiety, difficult emotions, relationships, and uncertainty. Therapy offers a space to understand those patterns with curiosity and compassion, reconnect with yourself, and begin making meaningful changes.
At Sisu Psychology, I believe resilience doesn't come from having all the answers. It grows through self-awareness, meaningful relationships, and the courage to show up as your authentic self, even when it's uncomfortable.
My hope is that our work together helps you discover your own version of Sisu. Not by facing life's challenges alone, but by finding the confidence, compassion, and inner strength that have been there all along.
